RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply at the official Vietnam eVisa portal at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until approved.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight out of Vietnam within your eVisa validity period. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — they will check it before stamping you in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation or host's address and phone number ready. Immigration may ask where you are staying on arrival, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Officers may ask to see proof you can support yourself during your stay. Carry at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or have a recent bank statement accessible on your phone.Recommended
Visa-free entry is for tourism only
If you plan to work, study, or do business in Vietnam, you need a proper visa (not the 45-day visa-free entry). Apply for a business visa or work permit through your sponsor in Vietnam.
Keep your arrival card safe
The small white card you fill in on arrival is your temporary residence permit. Don't lose it — you'll need to hand it back when you leave Vietnam.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
At Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), or Da Nang (DAD), follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Fill in the arrival form
You'll receive a small white card on the plane or at the counter. Fill in your name, passport number, flight number, and first night address. Keep it simple.
3
Queue at immigration
Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport, arrival card, and boarding pass. The officer will check your details and stamp you in. This usually takes 2-5 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.
