Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash — US dollars or Sri Lankan rupees. Credit cards are not accepted. Bring enough cash to cover the fee and any immediate expenses.
30-day stay, not 30 days from issue
Your visa is valid for 30 days from the date you enter Sri Lanka, not from the date the visa is issued. Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine of $50 USD per day.

Fill out the arrival card
On the plane or at the airport, grab a Sri Lanka arrival card. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.

Go to the visa-on-arrival counter
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'E-Visa' counters (usually before immigration). Hand over your passport, arrival card, and $50 USD. The officer will process and stick the visa in your passport.

Proceed to immigration
With the visa sticker in your passport, join the immigration queue. Present your passport, arrival card, and return ticket if asked. The officer will stamp you in for 30 days.

Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. You're in Sri Lanka.
