Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Myanmar. Airlines at check-in may ask to see your passport validity, so carry it with at least one blank page for the entry stamp.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Myanmar
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket. If you arrive without one, they may deny boarding or entry — book a refundable onward ticket before you fly.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask to see cash or a bank statement showing you have enough money for your stay. Around $300–$500 USD in cash or a credit card statement usually satisfies them.Recommended
Visa-free entry is only at airports
You cannot use visa-free entry at land borders. If you plan to enter Myanmar overland from Thailand, China, or elsewhere, you must get a visa (e-visa or embassy visa) before you travel.
14 days is strict — no extensions
The 14-day period starts the day you arrive. You cannot extend it. If you need more time, apply for a tourist e-visa (28 days) before you go.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
You can only use visa-free entry at Yangon International Airport (RGN), Mandalay International Airport (MDL), or Naypyidaw International Airport (NYT). Land border crossings are not included.
2
Fill out the arrival card
You'll receive an arrival/departure card on the plane or at the immigration counter. Fill it out in English with your passport details, flight number, and accommodation address.
3
Join the immigration queue
Head to the 'Foreigners' or 'Visa on Arrival' queue. Present your passport, completed arrival card, and onward ticket if asked. The officer will stamp you in for 14 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There are no additional forms or fees for visa-free entry.
