Irish passport holders can enter Andorra for tourism or short stays without a visa. As of 2026, you only need a valid passport to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Andorra is not in the Schengen Area, but entry rules are similarly relaxed for EU/EEA nationals.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for duration of stay
Your Irish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Andorra. Andorra does not enforce a 6-month validity rule beyond your stay, but airlines may ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Andorra
Immigration officers at the border crossing may ask to see a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight or bus ticket out of Andorra ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Border officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least €100 per day of your stay, either in cash or on a card. Officers at the border may ask to see proof of funds, especially if you're staying longer than a few days.Recommended
Andorra is not in Schengen
Even though Andorra shares borders with France and Spain, it is not part of the Schengen Area. Your 90-day Schengen clock does not run while you're in Andorra. However, you must exit Schengen to enter Andorra, so plan your border crossing accordingly.
No airport — enter by road
Andorra has no commercial airport. You'll arrive by car or bus from France (via the Pas de la Casa border) or Spain (via La Seu d'Urgell). The nearest airports are in Barcelona (3 hours), Toulouse (2.5 hours), or Girona (3 hours). Book your ground transport in advance.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Andorra's border
Andorra has no airport — you'll enter by road from France or Spain. At the border checkpoint, present your passport. The officer will check its validity and may ask about your stay. No visa is needed, so the process is quick — usually under 2 minutes.
2
Show your documents if asked
The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Have them ready on your phone or printed. They rarely ask for proof of funds, but it's wise to have a bank statement or credit card available.
3
Receive entry stamp (if applicable)
Andorra does not always stamp passports, but if you request one, they usually oblige. The stamp is a nice souvenir. Your stay is recorded electronically, so don't worry if you don't get a stamp.

Frequently asked questions

No. Irish passport holders can enter Andorra visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies to tourism, business meetings, and short family visits.
You can stay up to 90 days within a rolling 180-day window. The clock resets after you leave the Schengen Area and Andorra for 90 days.
Andorra does not offer visa extensions for tourists. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire. Contact the Andorran Immigration Office (Oficina d'Immigració) in Andorra la Vella for details.
Technically yes, but immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. It's safer to have a return or onward ticket booked. A flexible ticket you can change later works fine.
No, it's not a legal requirement for entry. However, medical costs in Andorra are high — a simple hospital visit can cost €200–500. Insurance is strongly recommended.
If you're flying into Spain or France and then driving to Andorra, you need to meet the visa requirements of the Schengen country you enter first. Irish passport holders don't need a visa for Schengen short stays either, so no extra paperwork is needed.
Your valid passport (6+ months validity), a printed or digital copy of your return ticket, and proof of accommodation for your first night. A travel insurance card and a copy of your bank statement are optional but useful.
