Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Border officials may ask for a hotel booking or invitation letter showing where you will stay. Have a printed confirmation or digital copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Carry bank statements or a credit card as evidence — no specific minimum amount is published.Recommended
eVisa is electronically linked to your passport
You don't need to print the eVisa — but it's smart to have a copy on your phone and a paper backup in case of phone battery or network issues.
Overstaying is expensive
Overstaying your eVisa by even a day can result in a fine of 300–500 AZN (about €160–270) and a possible entry ban. Set a reminder to leave before your 30 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal (evisa.gov.az). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes 3–5 business days for standard service, or 3 hours for urgent (higher fee).
2
Receive and check your eVisa
You'll get the eVisa by email as a PDF. Check that your name, passport number, and dates are correct. The visa is valid for 90 days from issue, and you can stay up to 30 days per visit.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Print a copy of your eVisa, keep your return ticket and hotel booking easily accessible (phone screenshots work), and have your passport ready. At check-in, the airline will verify your eVisa.
4
Arrive at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Present your passport and eVisa (printed or digital). The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation — have them ready. You'll receive an entry stamp valid for up to 30 days.
