Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Irish passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Belize. Belize does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belize
Immigration officers at Belize's Philip Goldson International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Belize. Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $100 USD per day of your stay, either in cash, bank statements, or a credit card. Belize is not strict about this, but having proof avoids delays.Recommended
6-month passport rule strictly enforced
Belize immigration checks passport validity carefully. If your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival date, you will be refused entry. No exceptions.
Keep your departure slip
When you enter, immigration will give you a small slip. Do not lose it — you need to hand it back when you leave. Hotels may also ask to see it.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Belize International Airport (BZE)
After landing, follow signs to Immigration. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 30 days. The whole process usually takes 15-30 minutes.
2
If entering by land or sea
At land borders (like Chetumal in Mexico) or ferry terminals (from Honduras), the process is the same. You'll fill out a simple arrival form and present your documents. Keep the departure slip they give you — you'll need it when you leave.
