Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full period you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at Dublin and other EU hubs will check this before boarding. Carry a photocopy of the bio-data page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready. Overland exit plans are accepted but you may need to show a bus or train booking.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers occasionally ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. If you plan to stay with friends, ask them to send a scanned copy of their passport and a simple invitation letter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing you have access to funds. Tajikistan is a cash-heavy country — credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels in Dushanbe. ATMs exist but are unreliable.Recommended
Visa-free only for 30 days
The 30-day visa-free period starts from the day you enter. It cannot be extended, so plan your exit accordingly. Overstaying results in fines and potential entry bans.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months remaining, you may be denied boarding even if you're visa-free. Double-check before you fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most Irish travellers fly into Dushanbe (DYU). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there's a dedicated queue for foreign nationals.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and any supporting documents if asked. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your return ticket or accommodation.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee, no form. The whole process usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have items to declare.
