Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Irish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Kosovo. No minimum validity period beyond your stay is required by Kosovo authorities, but airlines may enforce 6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kosovo
Border officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Overstaying the 90-day visa-free limit can result in fines and entry bans.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from a host with their address and contact number is enough. No specific format required.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. A bank statement showing at least €50 per day or a credit card with available limit usually satisfies them. Cash is not required.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Kosovo requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it's even one day short, you'll be refused entry. Check your passport now, not at the airport.
No visa, but have your documents ready
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration officers can ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation. Keep digital copies on your phone or printed copies in your bag.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Pristina International Airport
Most Irish travellers fly into Pristina (PRN). After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' — Kosovo uses separate lanes for Kosovar citizens and everyone else.
2
Present your passport at immigration
Hand over your Irish passport. The officer will check your photo, verify your passport validity, and may ask how long you're staying and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. That's it — you're in.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave after 90 days. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to apply for a temporary residence permit from the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs before your 90 days are up — but that's a separate process and not guaranteed.
No, there's no registration requirement for Irish citizens staying up to 90 days. Your passport stamp is sufficient.
You'll be denied entry. Renew your passport before travelling. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced at the border.
Yes, you can enter by land from any neighbouring country. The same visa-free rules apply. Just be aware that if you're coming from Serbia, you'll cross at one of the designated border crossings (like Merdare or Jarinje). Have your passport ready for both sides.
No, it's not mandatory for entry. But it's strongly recommended. If you need medical treatment, you'll pay out of pocket — your Irish EHIC card does not cover Kosovo.
The Euro (EUR). Kosovo uses the euro even though it's not an EU member. Bring some cash for smaller shops and taxis — card payment is common in cities but not everywhere.
No, if you're transiting through Kosovo (e.g., flying into Pristina and out again within 24 hours), you still enter visa-free. The same passport validity and onward ticket rules apply.
