Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply at the Belgian embassy or visa application centre
You need a Schengen visa before travel. Apply at the Belgian embassy or a TLScontact visa centre in India. Submit your application at least 15 days before departure and no more than 6 months in advance. The visa costs €90 for adults, €45 for children 6–12, and is free for children under 6.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Schengen
Your passport must have at least two blank pages for visa stamps. The 3-month validity rule applies to the entire Schengen zone — not just Belgium. Airlines check this at check-in, so verify your passport expiry before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen
Immigration officers at Brussels Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within your visa's validity. Budget airlines check this before boarding. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask for a hotel reservation covering your entire stay or a letter of invitation from a host in Belgium. Have a printed copy of your booking confirmation or the host's signed declaration.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
You need to show you can support yourself during your stay — roughly €95 per day in Belgium. Carry recent bank statements, a credit card, or cash. Immigration officers rarely ask for this, but have it ready.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Indian passport holders cannot enter Belgium without a pre-approved Schengen visa. There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa. Plan ahead and book your appointment early.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Belgium, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa
Book an appointment at the Belgian embassy or consulate in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, or other designated centers). Submit the application form, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, and bank statements. Pay the visa fee (€80 for adults, reduced for children). Processing takes 15–30 days.
2
Wait for visa approval
Once approved, your passport will be stamped with a Schengen visa. Check the validity dates — they match your intended stay. You cannot enter before or stay beyond those dates.
3
Arrive in Belgium
At the airport (Brussels or other), join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket, accommodation proof, or purpose of visit. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport — that's your entry.
