Apply early – slots fill fast
Appointments at VFS Global for Hungary are often booked for weeks in advance, especially in summer. Start the process at least 6 weeks before your trip. Check for cancellations if no slots are available — new ones are released periodically.
Schengen 90/180 day rule
With a Hungarian Schengen visa, you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries. The count includes any days spent in other Schengen states. Overstaying can result in fines and future visa bans.

Determine where to apply
Find the Hungarian visa application centre (VFS Global) or Embassy that covers your area. You must apply in your home country — Indian nationals should apply in India unless residing elsewhere. Check the embassy website for jurisdiction.

Gather your documents
Collect all required documents: passport, photos, visa application form, travel insurance, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, bank statements, employment letter or leave approval, and a copy of your passport data page.

Book an appointment
Visa slots can fill up weeks in advance. Go to the VFS Global website, register, and schedule a date. Walk-ins are not accepted. Appointments are free, but you'll pay the visa fee later.

Attend the appointment
Arrive on time at the centre. Submit your documents, pay the visa fee (around 80 euros for adults, 40 euros for children), and provide biometrics (fingerprints and a digital photo). The officer may ask a few basic questions about your trip.

Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 45 days in busy periods. You'll receive a notification when your passport is ready for collection or can be couriered back.

Collect your visa & travel
Once approved, your visa sticker will be in your passport. Check the validity dates and number of entries. Fly to Hungary within the visa window. At border control, have your passport, visa, and supporting documents ready — they may ask for proof of purpose.
