Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Taiwan eVisa at the official Bureau of Consular Affairs portal. Processing takes 2–5 working days, and the eVisa is valid for 3 months from issue date. Print the approval notice and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Indian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Taiwan. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers in Taipei enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Taoyuan Airport asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Taiwan. Immigration officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least NT$30,000 (approx. ₹80,000). Officers rarely ask, but it helps if you're staying more than a week.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Processing times vary and applications can be delayed during holiday seasons. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your intended departure.
No representative embassy in India
Taiwan does not have official embassies. Instead, you will deal with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in New Delhi, or consulates in Mumbai and Chennai. Their visa sections operate by appointment only.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Taiwan. If your passport expires sooner, your visa application will be rejected. Renew your passport if needed before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents
Gather all required documents as listed above. Make sure your passport photos meet Taiwan’s specific size and background rules. Photocopy each original.
2
Submit application at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) or Visa Application Centre
Submit your application in person at the TECC in New Delhi, or at consulates in Mumbai and Chennai. Appointments are mandatory – check the respective office’s website. Alternatively, use an authorised visa application centre (e.g., VFS Global) if available. Hand over your passport, forms, and supporting documents. Pay the visa fee (₹4,500–₹5,000 for single entry, paid by demand draft or online).
3
Wait for processing
Processing takes 5–7 working days. During peak seasons it may take up to 10 working days. You may be called for a brief interview at the processing office.
4
Collect visa
Collect your passport with the visa sticker from the same office where you applied. Some centres offer courier delivery for an extra fee. Check the visa’s validity and entry conditions immediately.
5
Enter Taiwan
At Taipei Taoyuan Airport or other entry points (e.g., Kaohsiung), proceed to the ‘Foreign Passports’ queue. Present your passport with the visa and your return ticket. The immigration officer may ask simple questions about your trip. Entry is usually granted for up to 30 days (as per visa conditions).
