Indian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uganda. The process is entirely online and straightforward — you apply before you travel, and approval typically comes within a few days. As of 2026, the eVisa is the standard way to visit for tourism, business, or transit.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply online at the Uganda eVisa portal before travel. The eVisa is mandatory for Indian passport holders — you cannot get a visa on arrival at Entebbe Airport. Processing takes 2–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Uganda. Airlines at Indian airports will check this before boarding — no exceptions.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Entebbe routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — they may not accept verbal confirmation.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers sometimes ask for this during the visa application process or at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. Uganda does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask if you look underprepared.Recommended
Yellow fever certificate is mandatory
You must carry your yellow fever vaccination card (the 'yellow card') when entering Uganda. Immigration officers check it at the airport. If you don't have one, you'll be vaccinated on the spot and charged a fee.
Keep your eVisa approval printed
Don't rely solely on a digital copy. Print the eVisa approval letter and keep it with your passport. Some airlines also ask to see it at check-in.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug and fill out the application. You'll need a digital passport photo, your passport details, and your travel itinerary. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) by credit card. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF approval letter. Print it — you'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Uganda. Keep a digital copy on your phone as backup.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Join the queue for 'Visitors with eVisa'. Present your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation booking. The officer will take your fingerprints and a photo, then stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. You're free to go.
