Visa required — apply well in advance
Iraqi passport holders must obtain a Schengen visa before traveling to Spain. Processing can take 15 days or longer, so apply at least 4–6 weeks before your trip. Do not book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you arrive in Spain, not from when you leave. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: valid passport, completed visa application form, photos, flight itinerary, accommodation proof, travel insurance, bank statements, and any additional documents requested by the consulate.

Submit your visa application
Book an appointment at the Spanish consulate in Baghdad or the BLS visa application center. Attend in person to submit your application and biometrics (fingerprints). Pay the visa fee (€80 for adults, reduced for children).

Wait for processing
Processing typically takes 15 calendar days. You can track your application online if submitted through BLS. You may be called for an interview if additional verification is needed.

Collect your passport
Once approved, collect your passport with the visa sticker. Check that all details (name, dates, validity) are correct before leaving the center.

Arrive in Spain
At the airport, join the 'Non-EU' queue. Present your passport with visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof if asked. The officer may ask about your travel plans. Answer clearly and briefly.
