Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. Processing takes up to 3 working days. The eVisa is valid for 30 days single entry. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No 6-month validity rule applies for Icelandic passport holders. Airlines may still check for 6 months — confirm with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. This applies even if you hold a valid eVisa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan. Officers may ask for it at passport control. A simple booking confirmation email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement or enough cash (around 200 AZN per day) to cover your stay. Officers rarely ask, but it can speed things up if questioned.Recommended
Use only the official eVisa website
Many third-party sites charge inflated fees. The only official portal is evisa.gov.az. The fee is around $25 USD — if you're asked to pay more, you're on the wrong site.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Azerbaijan. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, a digital photo, and your accommodation address. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) with a credit card.
2
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
3
Print or save the eVisa
Print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. Airlines may check it at check-in, and border control at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport will scan the QR code.
4
Arrive at Baku airport
At immigration, present your passport and the eVisa (printed or on your phone). The officer will stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
