Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a DR Congo eVisa at visa.gouv.cd at least 2 weeks before departure. The eVisa is single-entry and valid for up to 90 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at N'djili Airport will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from DR Congo. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit
Immigration officers at Kinshasa airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your stay. Immigration officers rarely ask, but it helps if you are questioned about your purpose of visit.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Icelanders
You cannot get a visa at the airport in Kinshasa. The eVisa must be approved before you fly. Airlines check this before letting you board.
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) at immigration. This is a legal requirement — no exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official DR Congo visa website (visa.gouv.cd) and complete the application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get the eVisa by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need it at airline check-in and at immigration in Kinshasa.
3
Arrive at N'djili International Airport (FIH)
After landing in Kinshasa, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa Control'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There are no additional visa formalities at this point.
