Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in France. Iceland is in the Schengen zone, so you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries — France doesn't count separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Paris CDG and other French airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from a friend/family member with their address ready. Border officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €65 per day of your stay. Officers at French border control rarely check this for Icelandic passport holders, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Schengen Area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free limit covers all 27 Schengen countries combined. Track your days carefully — a day spent in Germany or Italy counts toward the same 90-day total.
Passport validity is critical
Even if your passport is valid for the whole trip, if it has less than 6 months remaining on your entry date, you risk being refused boarding or entry. Check your expiry date now.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At any French airport (CDG, ORY, NCE, etc.), follow signs for 'EU/EEA/CH' or 'All Passports'. Icelandic passports are processed in the EU lane. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Show supporting documents if asked
If requested, show your return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds. Keep them in an easily accessible pocket.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp before walking away. Keep your passport safe for the rest of your trip.
