Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Icelandic passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Luxembourg. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure — just cover your travel dates. Airlines sometimes enforce 6 months anyway, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen
Immigration at Luxembourg airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within 90 days. Budget airlines check this at check-in too. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from your host in Luxembourg. Border officers rarely ask for it, but they can. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Luxembourg doesn't publish a fixed amount, but €50–100 per day is a safe benchmark. Officers rarely check, but it's your backup if questioned.Recommended
Schengen Area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen Area (29 European countries). Days spent in any Schengen country count toward your 90-day limit. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.
No visa needed
Icelandic passport holders enjoy visa-free access to Luxembourg for short stays. No application, no fee, no paperwork before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Luxembourg Airport (LUX)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control'. Schengen citizens use a separate lane; as an Icelandic passport holder, you can use the 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' lane. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and accommodation details. The process usually takes 2–5 minutes.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket (on your phone is fine) and accommodation booking. Answer clearly: tourism, business, or visiting family. You will not receive a stamp unless you request one, but the entry is recorded electronically.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. Then head through 'Nothing to Declare' if you have no goods to declare. You are now free to enter Luxembourg.
