Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Mauritius. No 6-month rule applies here — just make sure it doesn't expire before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mauritius
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Mauritius ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have your hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your trip. Immigration rarely asks, but they can request proof of at least 3,000 MUR per day.Recommended
No visa needed, but don't skip the checklist
Visa-free doesn't mean 'no documents'. Immigration can ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof at any time. Have them ready on your phone.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check the 6-month rule before boarding. If your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival date, you won't be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

Present your documents at immigration
Hand over your passport, return ticket (if asked), and proof of accommodation. The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry permit. No forms to fill in advance.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit.
