Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within 90 days. Airlines check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their contact details and address. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to roughly $50 USD per day of your stay. Immigration may ask to see it if you look underfunded or are staying a long time.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding, and border officials check on arrival. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied entry.
Keep digital copies of all documents
Save screenshots of your passport info page, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone. If you lose your physical documents, these copies can help at an embassy or with local authorities.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months beyond entry date) and ensure at least 1 blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Download or print confirmations.
2
Arrive at a Ukrainian port of entry
At any international airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa, etc.) or land border crossing, proceed to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and supporting documents ready.
3
Present documents to border officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof. Answer questions clearly. They will stamp your passport with an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the passport check, proceed to baggage claim (if arriving by air) and then customs. Unless you have items to declare, use the green channel. You're now legally in Ukraine.
