Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. The process takes about 3 working days and costs $25 USD. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport — border officers will ask to see it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Luxembourg passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Show at immigration
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or a letter from a host with their address and contact number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $200 USD per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
eVisa is the only option
Luxembourg citizens cannot get a visa on arrival in Azerbaijan. You must obtain an eVisa before travel. Apply at least 3 business days ahead.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Azerbaijan. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (approx. $20–$25 USD). Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save the eVisa
Print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Azerbaijan.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
Most Luxembourg travellers fly into Baku. After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign nationals. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry stamp.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. No arrival declaration is required for standard tourist visits.
