Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Luxembourg passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in Belgium. No minimum validity period beyond your stay is required for Belgian immigration, but some airlines still enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Belgian border officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, a printed booking or a digital copy on your phone is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash/card limit to cover your stay — roughly €45 per day is the informal benchmark. I've never been asked, but a friend was pulled aside at Brussels Airport for showing only €200 for a 10-day trip.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Belgium is part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free stay applies across all Schengen countries combined. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Belgium and the rest of Schengen.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Belgium. If it expires sooner, you will be denied entry. Check your passport now, not at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belgian border
Whether you fly into Brussels Airport (BRU), Charleroi (CRL), or arrive by train or car, you'll go through passport control. EU/EEA citizens use the 'EU' lane; as a Luxembourg passport holder, you can use that lane too.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check the validity, look for blank pages, and may ask a few questions: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying.
3
Answer questions honestly
Common questions: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'Do you have a return ticket?'. Answer briefly and truthfully. No need to over-explain.
4
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. That stamp determines how long you can stay (up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area).
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare. You're in.
