Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for intended stay
Your Luxembourg passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Latvia. Since Latvia is part of the Schengen zone, your 90-day visa-free stay resets every time you leave and re-enter the Schengen area — keep track of your days.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Riga Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines check this at check-in too — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a friend in Latvia works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You don't need to show a specific amount, but have a bank statement or credit card ready. Officers in Latvia rarely ask, but if they do, €50–€100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Schengen rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries, not just Latvia. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, or other Schengen states, those days count toward your total.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it expires sooner, you may be denied boarding or entry. Check your passport well before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Riga Airport (RIX) or other Schengen border
You'll go through Schengen border control. Queue up in the 'All Passports' line. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer may ask about your trip purpose and accommodation. Answer briefly and honestly.
2
Present your passport for stamping
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity and may scan it. You'll receive an entry stamp with the date. Keep the stamp visible — it proves you entered legally.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim. Then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. You're now in Latvia.
