Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Luxembourg passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Montenegro. No minimum validity period beyond your stay is required by law, but airlines may ask for 3–6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Montenegro
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Podgorica and Tivat airports. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — a bus or ferry ticket to a neighboring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their contact details ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds — roughly €50–€100 per day of your stay. A recent bank statement, credit card, or cash in euros works fine.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Montenegro. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding, even if you have a valid visa.
No visa needed for 90 days
Luxembourg passport holders can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. This applies to tourism, business visits, and remote work. No registration or additional paperwork required.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at border
At Podgorica Airport, Tivat Airport, or any land border crossing, join the queue for non-Montenegrin passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and wave you through. The whole process usually takes 2–5 minutes.
2
During your stay
You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No registration with local authorities is needed. Keep your passport with you — police can ask for ID at any time.
3
Departure
At exit, the officer will check your passport again and stamp you out. Make sure you haven't overstayed — overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
