Luxembourg passport holders need an eVisa to enter Nigeria for tourism or business. The eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for up to 90 days, and you must apply online before you travel. As of 2026, the process is entirely digital — no embassy visit required.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for your Nigeria eVisa at the Nigeria Immigration Service portal before travel. The eVisa is a single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you must print the approval letter to present on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Luxembourg passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. If you don't have one, you may be refused entry or asked to buy a ticket on the spot.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Immigration may ask for this during the arrival interview, especially if you're staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay, or have at least $500 USD in cash. Immigration officers occasionally ask to see proof of financial means, particularly for longer visits.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot at your own expense.
Cash is king in Nigeria
ATMs are common in cities but often run out of cash. Bring enough US dollars or euros to exchange at the airport or a bank. Credit cards are accepted only in upscale hotels and restaurants — most places expect cash.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng) and create an account. Fill in the application form, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (around $160 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) by credit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF approval letter. Print two copies — one for your hand luggage, one as backup. The letter includes a barcode that immigration will scan on arrival.
3
Arrive at a Nigerian airport
You'll land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos or Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) in Abuja. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival' — there's a dedicated eVisa lane. Present your passport, eVisa letter, and return ticket. The officer will take fingerprints and a photo, then stamp your passport.
4
Collect your luggage and clear customs
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Customs may ask to see your bags — declare any items worth over $5,000 or large amounts of cash. Then exit into the arrivals hall.
