Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival at major airports
Get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports. Pay $30 USD in cash (bring exact change — the exchange rate at the counter is poor). Have one passport photo ready. The process takes 10–15 minutes.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry. Cambodia strictly enforces this — airlines check it before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. If you plan to leave overland, carry a bus or train booking confirmation.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but budget airlines sometimes check at check-in. A simple booking.com confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this for short stays, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival counter accepts only US dollars cash. No credit cards, no Cambodian Riel. Have exact change if possible — officers rarely have change for $50 or $100 bills.
Overstay fines add up fast
Overstaying your visa costs $10 per day, and you'll be fined at immigration when you leave. If you plan to stay longer, get an extension before your visa expires.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out arrival card and visa application form
On the plane or at the airport, grab a Cambodia Arrival Card and a Visa Application Form. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and hotel address. Keep your passport photo ready to attach.
2
Go to the Visa on Arrival counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' (usually before immigration). Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30 (tourism) or $35 (business). The officer will process it — takes 5–15 minutes depending on queue.
3
Collect your passport with visa sticker
Once called, check the visa sticker: name, passport number, dates, and visa type. If anything is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Proceed to immigration
Join the immigration queue. Present your passport (with visa), arrival card, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the departure card stub in your passport.
5
Baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage. Customs is usually green channel (nothing to declare) unless you have large sums of cash or restricted items.
