The Ethiopian eVisa is only valid for entry at Bole International Airport. If you plan to enter by land from Kenya, Sudan, or another neighbor, you need a visa from an Ethiopian embassy before you travel.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Ethiopia — not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

Go to www.evisa.gov.et and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Pay the fee (around $52 USD for a 30-day single-entry visa) with a credit or debit card.

Processing usually takes 1–3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email. Print it or save it on your phone — you'll show it at immigration.

Arrive at Bole International Airport (Addis Ababa)
Most international flights land at Bole. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival' (but you already have your eVisa). Join the queue for 'eVisa' or 'Foreign Passports'.

Present your documents
Hand over your passport, printed eVisa (or phone screen), and return ticket. The officer may ask a few questions — how long you're staying, where you're staying. Answer clearly.

The officer stamps your passport and you're in. Collect your bags and proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
