Don't skip the Letter of Invitation
Mongolian passport holders cannot get a Turkmen eVisa without an LOI from a licensed local agency. This is the step that trips people up. Start it at least three weeks before you plan to travel.
Print everything
Turkmen border officials want paper. Print your eVisa, LOI reference, insurance policy, and return flight booking. Digital copies on your phone are not enough.
Register if you stay more than 3 days
Hotels handle this automatically, but if you're staying with friends or in a private apartment, you must register yourself at the State Migration Service office in Ashgabat or the regional capital. Do it within three days of arrival.
What happens at the border

Contact a licensed Turkmen travel agency
Email or call a registered tour operator in Turkmenistan at least three to four weeks before your trip. Give them your passport details, intended travel dates, and cities you plan to visit. They will submit the Letter of Invitation (LOI) to the State Migration Service. You cannot do this step yourself — it must come from a local sponsor.

Wait for LOI approval
The State Migration Service typically takes 10 to 14 working days to approve the LOI. Your agency will send you the approval reference number once it comes through. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have this number.

Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Turkmenistan eVisa portal and complete the application form. Enter your LOI reference number exactly as provided. Upload a digital passport photo and a clear scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee by credit or debit card. Save the confirmation email.

Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, print at least two copies of your eVisa confirmation. One for your carry-on, one for your checked luggage. Airlines at check-in will ask to see it before they let you board.

Arrive at Ashgabat International Airport
On arrival, go to the visa-on-arrival desk before the main immigration queue. Show your passport, printed eVisa, and LOI reference. Officials will verify your details and issue the entry stamp. Expect this to take 20 to 40 minutes depending on how many flights landed at once.

Keep your registration slip
If you stay more than three days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service. Keep the registration slip with your passport — you'll need it when you leave the country.
