Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at any Egyptian international airport. Pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or GBP) — single entry costs $25 USD, multiple entry costs $60 USD. Have a passport photo ready, though they rarely ask for one.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from the day you land in Egypt. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from a host can speed up the visa on arrival process. Officers rarely demand it, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry at least $1,000 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The bank kiosk before immigration does not accept credit/debit cards. Bring USD 25 (or EUR/GBP equivalent) in crisp, non-rippled bills. ATMs before immigration are unreliable — don't rely on them.
Visa on arrival is single entry
If you leave Egypt (even for a day trip to Jordan or Israel), you'll need a new visa on return. For multiple entries, apply for an e-Visa before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Land and head to the bank kiosk
After deplaning at Cairo (CAI) or Hurghada (HRG), follow signs to 'Bank' or 'Visa on Arrival' before immigration. You'll see a small bank counter. Pay USD 25 (or EUR/GBP equivalent) and get a visa sticker.
2
Affix the sticker and queue at immigration
Peel the sticker and place it on a blank page in your passport. Then join the 'Visa on Arrival' queue. Hand over your passport, the sticker, and your boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and customs. The whole process usually takes 20–40 minutes depending on queue length.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — Cairo (CAI), Hurghada (HRG), Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH), Luxor (LXR), and Marsa Alam (RMF) all have visa-on-arrival facilities. The process is the same: bank kiosk first, then immigration.
USD 25 for a single-entry tourist visa valid for 30 days. You can also pay in EUR (€25) or GBP (£20). Bring exact change if possible. Egyptian pounds are not accepted.
No — the visa-on-arrival is not extendable. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a regular visa at an Egyptian embassy before travel or leave and re-enter.
Digital is fine — show the confirmation email or app booking on your phone. Immigration rarely asks, but having it ready avoids hassle.
You will be denied boarding by the airline. Check your passport expiry before booking flights. Renew if needed.
ATMs exist before immigration but are unreliable. Always bring USD 25 in cash. If your ATM card works, you'll still need to exchange at the bank kiosk — they don't accept card payments.
No — the e-Visa is a separate online application you complete before travel. The visa on arrival is obtained at the airport. Both cost USD 25 and allow 30 days. The e-Visa can be single or multiple entry; the on-arrival is single entry only.
