Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Senegal. Airlines check this at check-in. Six months validity beyond departure is not required — just cover your stay dates.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Senegal
Immigration at Dakar Blaise Diagne Airport asks for a return or onward ticket. Airlines also enforce this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or letter from a host works. Have it accessible on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. A bank statement or credit card usually satisfies them. No specific minimum amount is published.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months remaining, you will not be allowed to board. Double-check your passport's expiry date before booking.
No visa, no fee — but have cash ready
Entry is free, but you may need cash for taxis, food, or accommodation on arrival. ATMs are available at the airport, but they sometimes run out of cash. Carry some euros or dollars to exchange.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for foreign nationals and Senegalese citizens. Join the foreign nationals line.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day visa-free entry.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually a green channel — you walk through unless you have something to declare. No forms to fill.
