Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Maltese passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Kosovo. No minimum validity period beyond your stay is required by Kosovo immigration, but airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kosovo
Immigration officers at Pristina International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host with their address and contact number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Kosovo doesn't publish a minimum amount, but carrying around €100–€150 per day in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds covers you if asked.Recommended
Passport validity counts from arrival, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Kosovo, not the day you leave. If it expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
Registration required for stays over 30 days
If you're staying longer than 30 days, you must register with the local police within 48 hours. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're in private accommodation, you need to do it yourself.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Pristina International Airport
You'll join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity, ask your purpose of visit, and may request your return ticket or accommodation proof. The process usually takes 2-5 minutes.
2
Land border crossings (if arriving by road)
At land borders like Merdare or Vërmicë, the procedure is similar. Have your passport and vehicle documents if driving. Queues can be longer during peak summer months — expect 15-30 minutes.
3
Registration with local police (if staying > 30 days)
If you plan to stay more than 30 days, you must register with the nearest police station within 48 hours of arrival. Hotels usually do this for you, but if you're in private accommodation, you need to do it yourself. Bring your passport and proof of address.
