Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application

Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. Without one, you risk being refused entry and sent back.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Have a hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan ready. Immigration may ask where you are staying — show the booking confirmation on your phone or a printed copy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — bank statements or a credit card with a reasonable limit. Immigration rarely asks, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
No visa on arrival — apply early
Azerbaijan does not offer visa on arrival for Nigerian passport holders. The e-visa must be approved before you board your flight. Apply at least 5 business days in advance to avoid last-minute stress.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Azerbaijan, not from your departure date. If your passport expires in less than 6 months, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a digital passport photo, and pay the visa fee (around $20–$25 USD). Processing takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email — print it or save the PDF on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents before departure
Gather your passport (6+ months validity), printed visa approval, return flight booking, and first-night accommodation confirmation. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' (not 'Transit'). Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, visa printout, and boarding pass ready. An officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking — show them calmly.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. If anything looks wrong, ask the officer to correct it immediately.
