Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a Schengen visa
You need a Schengen visa before traveling to Poland. Apply at the Polish embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Submit your application at least 15 days before your trip — processing takes up to 15 calendar days.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from Schengen area
Your passport must have at least two blank pages. The 3-month validity rule applies to the entire Schengen zone — not just Poland. Airlines check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Border officers ask for a return or onward ticket to confirm you leave Schengen within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or a letter from your host in Poland. Immigration may ask for it at the border. A printed copy works best.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or cash showing at least 100 PLN per day of stay (about €23). Officers rarely ask, but it's better to have proof ready.Recommended
Visa required — apply well in advance
There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa for Nigerians. You must get a Schengen visa from the Polish embassy before you travel. Start the process at least 4 weeks ahead.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended
While not always checked at immigration, travel insurance covers medical emergencies. Hospital stays in Poland can cost hundreds of euros per day without it.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa
Visit the Polish embassy or consulate in Nigeria. Submit your application form, passport, photos, and supporting documents. Pay the visa fee. Processing typically takes 10–15 working days.
2
Prepare for arrival
Before you fly, print or save digital copies of your visa, passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them easily accessible in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at a Polish airport
At Warsaw Chopin Airport or any other Polish airport, proceed to the 'Non-EU' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof. Answer clearly and calmly.
4
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport. Check the stamp shows the correct entry date. You're now allowed to stay for the duration specified on your visa.
