Canada entry requirements for Netherlands passport holders
As a Dutch passport holder, you need a visitor visa (TRV) to enter Canada in 2026. There is no visa-free access or eTA option for tourism or business visits — you must apply and get approved before you travel.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the duration of your stay | Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Canada. Airlines check this at check-in, and Canadian border officers will deny boarding if your passport expires before your departure date. | Required |
| Visa application Apply for a visitor visa before travel | You need a visitor visa to enter Canada. Apply online through the IRCC portal — processing takes 2–4 weeks for Dutch passport holders. You'll submit biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre in The Hague or Amsterdam.Apply for visa | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of departure from Canada | Immigration officers routinely ask for a return flight or onward ticket to another country. If you don't have one, they may issue a removal order or deny entry. A refundable ticket works fine. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you're visiting friends or family. A simple booking.com reservation printed out works. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself during your stay | Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your trip. Officers rarely ask Dutch travellers for this, but having a statement from the last 30 days avoids delays. | Recommended |
