Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Armenia enforces the 6-month passport validity rule at the border. Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. A bus or train ticket to Georgia or Iran also satisfies this requirement.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation email or an invitation letter from a host with their address and phone number works. Airbnb bookings are accepted — just have the confirmation printed or on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Armenia does not have a fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask how you will fund your trip. Carry a credit card and some cash (AMD or USD). Having at least $50 per day in accessible funds covers most situations.Recommended
Visa-free for 180 days per year
The 180-day limit is per calendar year, not per visit. If you stay 90 days, leave, and come back, you can use the remaining 90 days. Keep track of your total days.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Armenian immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity left. Check your passport's expiry date before booking flights.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Yerevan or other border
You'll enter Armenia at Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan), or at a land border from Georgia, Iran, or Turkey. At the airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Armenian citizens and foreigners.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the immigration officer. They'll check your photo and validity. No visa is needed, so no extra documents are required unless asked.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date. That's it — you're in. The stamp shows you're allowed to stay up to 180 days. Keep the stamp visible in case you need it later.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. You're free to go.

Frequently asked questions

No. Norway is on Armenia's visa-free list. You can enter without a visa and stay up to 180 days per calendar year. No application or fee is needed.
No, the visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Armenia and re-enter, or apply for a temporary residence permit from the Migration Service in Yerevan. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
You'll likely be denied entry. Armenian immigration requires at least 6 months of passport validity from your date of entry. Renew your passport before you travel.
It's not a strict requirement, but immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel. Having a return or onward ticket booked (even a cheap bus ticket to Georgia) avoids any hassle.
No, it's not required for entry. But it's strongly recommended — medical costs in Armenia can be high, and insurance covers accidents, illness, or trip disruptions.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. If you plan to work, you need a work visa or residence permit. Working without one is illegal.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may face a fine (around 50,000 AMD, about $130) and could be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave before your 180 days are up.
