Norwegian passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for Indonesia, valid for 30 days. This is the standard entry method for tourism in 2026 — just arrive at major airports and pay the fee at the counter before immigration.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at any major Indonesian airport or seaport. Pay $35 USD in cash (exact change preferred) — they accept US dollars, euros, or Indonesian rupiah. The visa is valid for 30 days and cannot be extended, so plan your exit date carefully.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Indonesia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. No exceptions.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return ticket
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel at Jakarta, Bali, and other entry points. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready. If you cannot show one, you may be refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Immigration may ask for your hotel reservation or address of stay. Have a printed confirmation or a screenshot on your phone. If you are staying with friends, carry their contact details and address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient funds
Officers can ask for proof you have enough money for your stay. Carry at least $1,000 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities but less so in rural areas.Recommended
Cash is king at VoA counters
The VoA fee is 500,000 IDR and must be paid before immigration. ATMs are after immigration, so you can't withdraw once you're in the queue. Bring exact cash in IDR — some counters won't give change in foreign currency.
Keep your departure card safe
When you pass immigration, you'll get a small card stapled into your passport. Don't lose it — you'll hand it back when you leave Indonesia. Losing it means extra paperwork at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the VoA counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'VoA Payment'. This is before the immigration queue. Pay 500,000 IDR and get your receipt.
2
Proceed to immigration
Hand over your passport, VoA receipt, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day stay. Keep the small slip attached to your passport — you'll need it when leaving.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags and head to customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $500 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

No, the standard VoA is not extendable. If you need more than 30 days, apply for a B211A tourist visa before travel (valid 60 days, extendable up to 180 days).
VoA is available at all major international airports: Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), Surabaya (SUB), Medan (KNO), and others. If you're flying into a tiny regional airport, check with your airline — you may need a visa in advance.
Some airports accept cards, but it's unreliable. Always carry 500,000 IDR in cash. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need the cash before that point.
Yes, an onward ticket out of Indonesia within 30 days is required. A flight to Australia, Singapore, or anywhere else counts.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Indonesian immigration. No exceptions. Renew your passport before traveling.
No. VoA is obtained on arrival. There's also an e-Visa (e-VoA) you can apply online before travel — same cost, same 30 days, but you skip the payment queue. Both are valid for tourism.
No, the VoA is single-entry. If you leave Indonesia (e.g., a day trip to Singapore), you'll need a new VoA when you return.
