Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Norwegian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Moldova. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required. Airlines may check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Moldova
Immigration officers at Chișinău Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. This applies to all visa-free entries.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host ready. A printed copy works best.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card. No specific minimum amount is published, but €50 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Transnistria entry rules
If you plan to visit Transnistria, you can enter without a visa for up to 24 hours. For longer stays, you must register with the Transnistrian migration office. Your standard travel insurance may not cover this region — check with your provider.
No registration needed
Unlike some other countries in the region, Moldova does not require you to register your stay with the police if you're visiting for less than 90 days. Your passport stamp is sufficient.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Chișinău International Airport (or land border)
Most Norwegian travellers fly into Chișinău (KIV). At passport control, join the queue for non-Moldovan passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and wave you through. Expect a 5–15 minute wait.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket (on your phone is fine) and accommodation booking. Answer any questions clearly — purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're in Moldova.
