Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal at least 2 weeks before departure. The application asks for passport details, travel dates, and a recent photo. Approval usually takes 3–5 business days — print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Norwegian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Uganda. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Ugandan law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Entebbe Airport will ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight or a ticket to your next destination. Airlines also check this before boarding. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Have a hotel booking or an invitation letter from your host ready. Immigration officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card showing at least $200 USD per day of stay. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays if questioned.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Norwegian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. You must have an approved eVisa before you fly. Airlines check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Uganda, not from your departure date. Double-check before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, create an account, fill in the application, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) by credit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days, sometimes faster.
2
Receive and print the approval
You'll get an email with an approval letter. Print it and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa/Immigration'. Hand over your passport, printed eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. There's no separate health screening unless you're arriving from a yellow fever endemic area.
