Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Colombia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Colombian law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Colombia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Colombia within 90 days. Airlines also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works. Have it accessible on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You might be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A credit card, bank statement, or cash (around $200–$300 USD equivalent) usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Check-Mig pre-registrationCheck-Mig: Colombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form within 72 hours of arrival
Colombia requires all travellers to complete the Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. It's free and takes under 5 minutes. Save the confirmation QR code — you'll show it at immigration in Bogotá or Medellín.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is mandatory — don't skip it
You must complete the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. Without it, you may be delayed or denied entry. Do it online, save the confirmation, and show it on arrival.
Travel insurance is not required but highly recommended
Medical costs in Colombia can be high — a hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. Insurance is cheap peace of mind. Consider getting a policy before you go.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig Online
Go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill out the Check-Mig form. Do this 24–72 hours before your flight. You'll enter your flight details, passport info, and accommodation address. Save the confirmation PDF or screenshot.
2
Arrive at Immigration Counter
At Bogotá El Dorado or any other airport, follow signs to 'Migración' (immigration). Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, Check-Mig confirmation, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days.
3
Collect Your Luggage and Exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green/red channel — if you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel. You're now legally in Colombia.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. You must leave Colombia before the 90 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type (like a tourist visa extension or a residence visa) before your 90 days expire — but the standard visa-free entry cannot be extended.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined per day overstayed, and you may be banned from re-entering Colombia for a period. The fine is typically around 1–2 USD per day, but the bigger issue is the entry ban. Always leave on time.
Not required for entry from the Philippines, but recommended if you plan to visit the Amazon region or other jungle areas. Some airlines may ask for proof if you're connecting through a country that requires it. Check with your airline before departure.
No. Immigration strictly requires at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration. Renew your passport first.
Yes. It's a legal requirement. You must complete it online within 72 hours before your flight. Without it, you may be delayed at immigration or even denied entry. It's free and takes about 5 minutes.
You need proof of onward travel — a return flight to the Philippines or a ticket to another country. A bus ticket out of Colombia might not be accepted. Book a refundable ticket if you're unsure of your plans.
The visa-free entry is for a single stay of up to 90 days. If you leave Colombia and come back, you start a new 90-day period. But immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits. There's no official limit, but use common sense.
