Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. If you overstay, the fine is 500,000 VND per day (about $21 USD).Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it at the border, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you need to prove you can support yourself without working.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew before applying.
eVisa is not extendable
The eVisa cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Vietnam and re-enter with a new eVisa. Plan your trip accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese immigration website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) and submit. Processing takes 3-5 working days.
2
Receive and print eVisa
Once approved, you'll receive an eVisa PDF by email. Print a paper copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Vietnamese airport
At the airport, go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in. Keep your return ticket and accommodation details handy in case they ask.
