Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Portuguese passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Colombia. Colombian immigration does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but your airline might — check with them before departure.Required
Check-Mig pre-registrationCheck-Mig: Colombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form
Complete the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. The system generates a QR code — have it ready on your phone or printed when you go through immigration in Bogotá or Medellín.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Colombia
Immigration officers in Bogotá and Medellín routinely ask for a return or onward ticket within your 90-day visa-free stay. A bus ticket to Ecuador or a flight to Panama works — just show you're leaving.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your first night's hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, a simple booking printout or email suffices.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can support yourself — roughly $50–$100 USD per day. Colombian immigration rarely checks this for Portuguese passport holders, but it's smart to have it handy.Recommended
Check-Mig is mandatory — don't skip it
You must complete the Check-Mig form online at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. It's free and takes 5 minutes. Without it, you risk a fine or being denied entry. Save the confirmation on your phone.
90 days is the max — no extensions
The visa-free stay is strictly 90 days and cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for a visa at a Colombian consulate before you travel. Overstaying leads to fines and potential entry bans.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig Online
Go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill out the Check-Mig form. Do this between 72 hours and 1 hour before your flight. You'll need your flight details, passport info, and accommodation address. Save the confirmation PDF or screenshot.
2
Prepare Documents for Immigration
At the airport in Colombia (Bogotá, Medellín, or Cartagena), you'll go through immigration. Have your passport, printed or digital return ticket, and Check-Mig confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport for up to 90 days.
3
Collect Luggage and Exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be randomly selected for a customs inspection. If not, head straight to the exit. Keep your documents handy until you're outside the arrivals area.
