Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Cyprus. Cyprus does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for Portuguese passport holders — just make sure it doesn't expire before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus
Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports regularly ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host ready. Officers sometimes ask for this, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Cyprus doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but around €50–€100 per day is a safe benchmark if asked.Recommended
Cyprus is not in Schengen — but rules are similar
Even though Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area, the 90/180-day rule applies. Your days in Cyprus count toward your Schengen 90-day limit if you also travel to Schengen countries. Keep track of your total days.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Cyprus. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Larnaca or Paphos airport
You'll join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket or accommodation. The stamping process takes about 30 seconds.
2
Border control interview
The officer will ask your purpose of visit (tourism, business, etc.) and length of stay. Answer clearly. They may also ask for proof of funds or onward travel. Keep calm and show documents if requested.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After stamping, proceed to baggage claim. There are no additional checks for EU citizens. You're free to enter Cyprus.
