Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Mozambique
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Mozambique does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready. Officers at Maputo International Airport routinely ask for this, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked return flight. A bus or ferry ticket to a neighboring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Mozambique. Immigration officers occasionally request this during peak travel periods. A simple printout of your booking confirmation is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Officers rarely ask for this for short visits, but it helps to have a recent statement showing at least $500 USD or equivalent. Cash in USD or South African rand is widely accepted.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
No visa fee at arrival
Portuguese passport holders do not pay any fee for the visa-free entry. No need to carry cash for that purpose.
