Immigration officers at Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Tanzania.Required
Proof of accommodation

Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely check it, but having it avoids delays if they ask.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $200 USD per day. Officers almost never ask, but it's a legal requirement.Recommended
Cash only — no cards accepted
The visa fee must be paid in US dollars cash. ATMs at the airport are unreliable and may not dispense USD. Bring crisp, undamaged $50 bills. Old or torn notes may be refused.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process is well-organized at major airports. Have your passport, completed form, and cash ready. You'll be through in 15–30 minutes.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the visa-on-arrival counter
After landing at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. You'll find a dedicated counter before the main immigration booths.
2
Fill out the visa application form
Collect a small paper form at the counter. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and intended length of stay. A pen is provided, but carrying your own is faster.
3
Submit form and passport
Hand the completed form and your passport to the immigration officer. They will check your passport validity and blank page.
4
Pay the visa fee
Pay the $50 USD fee in cash. The officer will give you a receipt. Keep it safe — you may need it when leaving.
5
Receive your visa and proceed to passport control
The officer stamps the visa into your passport. Then join the main passport control queue for entry. Show your onward ticket if asked.
