Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Ukraine. Ukraine does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline might enforce their own policy — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the 90-day visa-free window.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a notarized invitation letter from a Ukrainian host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Immigration may ask for this if you look underfunded or have no return ticket.Recommended
Overstaying is serious
The 90-day visa-free period is strict. Overstaying even a few days can result in fines (1,700–8,500 UAH), deportation, and a ban from re-entering Ukraine for up to 3 years.
Registration requirement
If you stay more than 3 business days, you must be registered. Hotels do this automatically. If you're in a private apartment, go to the local migration office within 3 days. Keep the registration slip.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Download or print confirmations. Consider travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Ukrainian border
At any airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. Border officers may ask simple questions about your trip purpose and length of stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if the date is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Register your stay (if staying more than 3 days)
If you stay longer than 3 business days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do this yourself at the nearest migration office within 3 days. Keep the registration slip — you may need it when leaving.
