Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Rwanda. Rwanda does not enforce a 6-month validity rule beyond your departure date, but your airline might — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration officers at Kigali International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel reservation for your first few nights. If staying with friends or family, have their contact details and address written down — officers sometimes ask.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready showing you have enough money for your trip. There is no fixed minimum amount, but around $100–$200 USD per day is a safe benchmark if asked.Recommended
No visa needed, but be prepared
You don't need to apply for anything before you go. But immigration officers can still ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation. Have digital copies on your phone.
eSIMs save time at the airport
Skip the SIM card queue at Kigali airport. Install an Airalo eSIM before you fly — it activates the moment you land. You'll have data immediately for maps, rideshares, and WhatsApp.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
You'll land at Kigali International Airport (KGL). Follow signs to 'Immigration' — it's a single hall, usually quick. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Queue at the visa-free counter
Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. As a Qatari, you don't need to fill out any arrival form. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're in.
