Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhhcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single or multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until approved.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of Vietnam. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they may deny entry without one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Vietnam. Immigration may ask for it at the border, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Have at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash, credit cards, or bank statements. Officers rarely ask, but if you cannot show sufficient funds, they can refuse entry.Recommended
eVisa is the only option
Qatari passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. Apply online at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn at least a week before your trip.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not your departure date. If it's close, renew first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee ($25) by credit card. Processing takes 3-5 working days.
2
Receive and print eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a copy and save a screenshot on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at airport in Vietnam
At Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), or Da Nang airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'eVisa'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 2-5 minutes.
4
Show onward ticket and accommodation
Immigration may ask for your return ticket and first night hotel booking. Have them ready on your phone or printed. Answer clearly and confidently.
