Visa required — apply well in advance
Turkmenistan is one of the most difficult countries to get a visa for. Start the process at least 6–8 weeks before your trip. Some applications require a letter of invitation from a Turkmen tour operator or host.
Registration is mandatory for stays over 3 days
If you stay longer than 3 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're in private accommodation, you must do it yourself. Failure to register can result in fines or deportation.
