Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for Bhutan e-Permit
All foreign visitors need a Bhutan e-Permit before travel. Apply at bhutan.travel/e-permit at least 5 working days before departure. You'll need a passport scan, flight itinerary, and hotel booking — the system processes within 3–5 days.Apply for e-PermitRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Bhutan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Paro Airport always ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready — they check this before stamping your passport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or tour itinerary
Bhutan requires a pre-booked hotel or tour package for the entire stay. Your e-Permit application asks for the hotel name and address — have a confirmation email or booking voucher ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Daily minimum spend requirement
Bhutan enforces a minimum daily spend of $200–$250 per person (depending on season) for independent travellers. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover this — immigration may ask at entry.Recommended
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is mandatory
Every tourist pays $100 USD per night in Bhutan. This is on top of the visa fee. You pay it during the eVisa application. There are no exceptions for Slovenian passport holders.
eVisa processing takes weeks, not days
Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your departure. The approval comes via email — print it and keep a copy on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Bhutan eVisa website and fill out the application. Upload a passport-style photo and your passport data page. Pay the visa fee (around $40 USD) and the mandatory Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of $100 USD per night. Processing takes 2–4 weeks.
2
Receive eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF attachment. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show this at check-in and at immigration in Paro.
3
Arrive at Paro International Airport
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer will stamp you in. Have your return ticket and first night hotel confirmation ready in case they ask.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying restricted items.
