Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Chile. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Chile
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Chile ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card — around $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Chile requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive, not from your departure date. If your passport expires in 5 months, you'll be denied entry.
No visa extensions
The 90-day visa-free period cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must leave the country and re-enter, but do this sparingly to avoid scrutiny.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Santiago (SCL) or other airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Migraciones' (Immigration). Queues can be 20–60 minutes at peak times. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'When do you leave?'. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
3
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free period is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Chile (e.g., to Argentina or Peru) and re-enter, but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits. For stays over 90 days, apply for a temporary residence visa at a Chilean consulate before travel.
No, there is no arrival declaration or online pre-registration required for Slovak passport holders. Just show up with your passport and return ticket.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Chilean immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
Technically, the tourist visa does not permit any work, including remote work for a foreign employer. However, enforcement is lax for short stays. For longer remote work, consider Chile's 'Digital Nomad' visa (temporary residence for remote workers) which allows up to 1 year.
Overstaying is a violation. You may be fined around 100–200 USD and could be banned from re-entering Chile for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. However, yellow fever vaccine is recommended if you're coming from a country with yellow fever risk. Check with your doctor for routine vaccines.
Yes, the same visa-free rules apply at land borders. You'll still need a passport valid for 6+ months and a return ticket. Land crossings can be slower — expect queues and document checks.
