Visa on arrival
Apply at the airport
Get your visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at land border crossings. Pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR) — $30 USD for 15 days, $50 USD for 30 days, $125 USD for 90 days. Have two passport-size photos ready.Check visa detailsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Nepal. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have handy
Keep a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it speeds up the visa-on-arrival process.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to have handy
Carry cash (USD or EUR) or a credit card showing you can cover your stay. Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds, though it's not strictly enforced.Recommended
Cash only at immigration
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash — USD, EUR, or NPR. There are no ATMs or card machines before immigration. Bring enough cash to cover the visa fee plus a little extra for any unexpected costs.
Photo kiosks available
If you forget passport photos, there are photo booths at Tribhuvan International Airport near the visa on arrival area. They cost about $5 USD (cash). But it's faster to bring your own.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu)
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. You'll see a row of kiosks where you fill in your details on a touchscreen. Select 'Visa on Arrival', enter your passport info, and print the receipt. Take that receipt to the cashier counter, pay the fee, then proceed to the immigration officer who will stamp your passport.
2
At land borders (e.g., Sunauli, Kakarbhitta)
Same process but less automated. Go to the immigration office at the border, fill out the paper form, pay cash, and get your visa. Expect longer queues during peak season (Oct–Nov, Mar–Apr).
3
Collect your visa and exit
The immigration officer will hand back your passport with the visa sticker. Double-check the validity dates match what you paid for. Then proceed to baggage claim and customs.

Yes, you can extend at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (or Pokhara office). Extensions cost about $3 per day for up to 15 days, then $5 per day for additional days. Maximum total stay is 150 days per calendar year. Go early in the morning to avoid long queues.
If you're staying airside and not passing immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport (even for a few hours), you need a visa on arrival. There's no transit visa option.
Same process as the airport — you can get a visa on arrival at all major land border crossings (Sunauli, Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, etc.). Just go to the immigration office, fill the form, pay cash, and get your visa. Hours vary, so try to arrive during daylight.
Nepal does offer an e-visa for some nationalities, but Senegalese passport holders are not currently eligible. You must use the visa on arrival system.
Overstay fines are $5 per day for the first 30 days, then $10 per day after that. You pay at the immigration office before departure. Serious overstays (over 90 days) can result in a blacklist. Don't risk it — extend or leave on time.
Nepal does not require yellow fever vaccination for travellers from Senegal. However, if you've recently visited a country with yellow fever (e.g., parts of Africa or South America), you may need proof of vaccination. Check with your doctor before travel.
